is nylon oil pressure tubing ok??

Hi all, I'm in the process of plumbing in my autometer oil pressure gauge, I fitted the autometer boost pressure gauge and plumbed that in with the nylon tubing that came with the gauge but was a bit worried that a pipe that carries hot oil under pressure should be made of stronger stuff than nylon? I have seen some oil pressure gauges with braided hoses and some with copper pipework.

Is the tubing you get with the autometer gauges good enough for the oil pressure gauge on my r53 or will I run into problems in the future?

I'd like some reassurance that some of you guys have had them fitted for years with the nylon tubing and have had no issues/leaks.

please reassure me that it will be ok with the nylon pipe.

Thanks

After personally seeing a nylon type oil pressure unit leak inside a car.

I'd never run one. Get an electrical sender unit.

They are more vulnerable to damage, but if you have a decent brand like Autometer and do a careful install you'll have no trouble. I have one (Smiths) that has been going strong since 1966. The main complaint of racers is that the nylon lines are small diameter and (in theory at least) don't allow the gauge to respond as quickly as it might. Personally I think that's a non-issue.

so your running an oil line into the cabin of your vehicle?... never understood why those gauges are still even around... one slip, rip or break and your shooting 150+ degree oil at 20+psi into the cabin.

no thanks. i used copper line and electric sender.

be sure to test it and keep an eye on it of course; be ready with towels and to turn the engine OFF asap if you do have a leak. captain obvious has spoken! lol

+1 on copper. Good thing it wasn't on the MINI. Caught it right away, no damage done.

I would not install with nylon tube. However, I would not run any oil line into the cabin. I use an electric oil pressure gauge with a sending unit in the engine compartment.
