Cooper space-saver spare questions

It looks like a cell phone, Fix-a-Flat, a compressor, and a Cooper spare are the way to go when getting rid of the run-flats. Being that prepared should almost ensure that none of that stuff is ever needed!

3 questions about the Cooper space-saver spare:

What is the weight of the wheel and tire?
What is the diameter?
What is the price of the wheel and tire?

Thanks,
-Nick

I've heard the weight is around 35 lbs or so. I would think the diameter would need to be close to 24 inches (standard width for the various MINI's tires whether 15, 16, or 17 inch widths), otherwise it would not be recommended to use it as the front wheel which drives the car, or you would damage the driveshaft. I don't know what the price is, though, but if you call the dealer, they should be able to tell you. Only the Cooper has the spare as the S has no space for it.

Since you have an MC, how 'bout pulling it out of the car and measuring and weighing it for me?

The spare weighs approx. 22lbs. Plus whatever the plastic housing and tools weigh. Maybe another 4lbs or so. Pretty neat storage assembly.

I forgot to add the spare is significantly shorter than the real tire. About 4" shorter.

115/70/15 would give a section width of 4.5", and a diameter of 21.3",
although I measure 4.75" and 21.5" and 21.5# weight.
Wheel is 15x3.5 with offset of 35mm (although I measure 37mm).

Nick T.,

If you find a non MINI source of a similar sized compact spare let us know.
Might be good to keep one handy for flats or in the boot for those with MCS.

The stock 15x5.5" holie rim with continental tire 175/65-15 is about 26 pounds new so that spare is only a little lighter. The alloy rim is 12 pounds and tire is 14 pounds. That makes a good full size spare to use in case of a flat, just don't drive around too much on it. Just get home.
