Right Rear Caliper-I really need the spring

Category: Brakes
Price: $0
Private or Vendor Listing: Private Listing
Part fits (you may select multiples): R53
Location (Region): NorthEast
Item Condition: Used

The spring on Artoo’s right rear parking brake caliper pawl is gone making the caliper stick. I really only need the spring, the round one, but that is not available separately so if someone has just the spring, GREAT. But if not, I’ll take a right rear caliper in any condition.

Come on guys and gals. I know there is one of these in one of our parts boxes somewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Rich, hate to tell ya this but it's likely the caliper itself. I had same issue on daughter-unit's R53 and couldn't get 'er to move freely, new spring or no. New cables and a caliper is your best bet. Do 'em both since running the second cable is easier while you're in there, you're adjusting it anyway, and it's a pretty inexpensive "while you've got it apart" thing. I just used a decent caliper from Rock. You can even run the cables without dropping the exhaust if you're careful wriggling the heat shield out of the way. Bleed the brakes while you're at it, then forget about it (aside from routine brake fluid changes) for another decade or so... good luck!

It seems to be moving freely but the spring is gone. I redid both cables two years ago, the left side broke and I did them both, so I am good to go there.

The mechanism moves so good that when I reflexively pull the brake lever and it sticks I can reach under and rotate the pawl by hand to release it.

But in the end, if a new spring won’t stay there, I will be getting a new caliper. And each spring I flush the fluid as part of my spring routine.
