Fuel Economy underated?

Good day

I have a 2014 automatic Mini Cooper S Countryman 17" wheels with RF with about 5000 miles.

My average Fuel economy acording to the computer is 8.5 km/l or 19.52 mpg.
My last tank was 475 km or 294 Miles.
Acording to my calculations I consumed 14.71 gallons.

Are my fuel economy estimates Underated? Because acording to this I would be getting an average of 25 mpg.

One of the displays will show average fuel consumption calculated for the time the engine is running and is the overall average from the time the car was first run or since the last time it was reset. Therefore, it could easily read lower than what your last tank achieved. You could reset and start comparing for a more up-to-date average. On a 2011 CM, with the proper display up, you reset by pressing the button on the end of the turn signal arm for approx. 2 seconds.

Everytime I fill it up, i reset the fuel economy, so my last tank average was 19 mpg.

Luis I have the same year CM as you with an auto. I'm getting around 26mpg average. This is with probably 50/50 city/highway driving.

I have a 2013 standard and I consistently get 29 MPG. Mix of city and highway. Could not be happier.

wow, that seems incredibly low assuming you don't have the ALL4....Our JCW ALL4 M6 gets ~24.5 in mixed driving and I think that stinks......19.5..., unless you engage ABS to stop at every light and hammer the throttle to the floor on every takeoff, I am wondering if something is wrong....

Should an auto trans shave a lot of MPG compared to a manual...? I wouldn't think so..

I don't get the math. 294/14.7 = 20.

Interesting. My JCW, I was getting 25 mpg with my winter tires on (17 all season) and now only 23.5 mpg with 19s performance tires on. I live in very hilly area and drive with spirit. I did get 29 on flat stretches thru Texas.

I do much more city driving and the lowest I've seen is around 19.

But i'm in the 27mpg range. When I used to travel from Knoxville to Indy on the highway, I cranked out a few 33+ mpg. Highest being 211 miles on 5.89 gallons (35.8 mpg) and 341 miles on 9.78 gal (34.86 mpg).

Where'd you put that extra 2.71 gallons of gas? My tank is only 12 gal. capacity.

I'm getting 30.2mpg (according to the trip computer) pretty consistently, mostly back country roads at 45-50 mph. Very little highway or city driving. Couldn't be happier.

ALL4 supposedly has a smaller gas tank than the non-ALL4

The filler pipe is not included in the tank capacity. I put over 13 gals in my hardtop several times and it wasn't that close to empty. I'm wondering if the OP has ever divided the odometer reading by the pump display of gallons. Or if he has installed taller tires. The computer displayed mileage on my MINIs has always been two gallons more than reality.

Just use Fuelly.com It tells you exactly what your mpg are.

I was wondering this too! I 'd love an extra 2 gallons.

Same boat here - two-lane country roads, 60ish MPH and I'm always hovering around 32mpg (+350 miles/tank)

Picked up an used 2013 R60s All4 a month ago and been through one full tank and only getting around like 20.3mpg. Mainly all city driving though... Was hoping to get more like mid 20s for city drive.

Driving conditions here in my city are very different. I live in Monterrey, Mexico, its a city full of hills, so alot of up and downs.

Checking back. Had filled 2x and improved a bit to 21 and 21.6mpg. Still often city driving probably 85/15 past 2 tanks. Find it bit strange though the past 2 tanks and increase in mpg is after i got 19s on vs RFs

Up again @ 22.7mpg on last tank. Bought the car used at 19K so not sure when they did an oil change or any, but just had one done the other day and new tank so will see any improvements down the road.
