R60 At wits end: HALF BAKED CLUTCH JOB? Ammunition Needed!
At wits end: HALF BAKED CLUTCH JOB? Ammunition Needed!
Please read below, if anyone can chime in, I'm wondering if there are specific parts that changed, such as pressure plate, from year to year, or jcw parts being used, etc.
Other than common sense when doing a clutch job, (heard much about the bmw m series dual mass flywheels being an issue, so I find it hard that MINI was reluctant to rectify this issue early on, even with the small sample of standard transmissions.)
Clutch was slipping at 12,000 when I got it, with previous owner complaints. I now have 19000 miles.
They replaced the clutch disk and spring around 14000 miles.
here are the part numbers:
21.20.8.606.067 clutch
35.31.1.165.566 spring
The flash, and this replacement made night and day difference, but after so many miles, the problem is returning, which leads me to believe that combination of the 2011, old pressure plate, old flywheel, with new pedal spring and clutch disk, are not matched.
I've heard stories of some getting the same faulty part, and issues returning? Are there different part numbers? Are the jcw parts the same as the CMS for the year 2013 when they updated clutch parts?
Any insight into your experiences, or knowledge of parts, would be great!
Thanks all.

RealOEM shows that clutch disk as the clutch disk used in the N18 Countryman S and Countryman JCW. So the clutch disks are not different between the S and JCW. The clutch part number is also the part number for the "clutch kit" which includes clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. So really the only thing they wouldn't have replaced would have been the dual mass flywheel which is common when doing a clutch replacement with so low miles. The parts should have a 2 year warranty when they were replaced. Take it back to the dealer.
After another drive, the symptoms feel like the flywheel could be the culprit, the chatter coming out of first with sport off. I also have a rough idle that was not throwing a code, which could be bad mounts? Might explain the feedback I'm getting through the shifter.
I'm told to drive it in sport mode, that's their answer before it got worse. The fact that its still aweful in regular mode is unacceptable, the cars on the lot don't drive that way, nor due my loaners.
Its going back. Taking my two outside opinions from mechanics with me, and telling them if they can't reproduce it, go drive any 13- model on the lot. Tired of messing around my car has been in the shop at least two months in the last year.

Ah, ok. Best of luck. I hope the flash and clutch (flywheel included hopefully) take care of it.

When the car went in for clutch replacement, we inspected the flywheel and left it in - just replaced the clutch assembly.
The result was a dramatic change, and I've not had the surging, halting starts since - just smooth starts.
