R60 Check Engine light comes on.... Turbo needs to be replaced
Check Engine light comes on.... Turbo needs to be replaced
so my '12 Countryman S has the check engine light come on the other day. SO i schedule it with my local mini dealer and they just called me to inform me that the turbo needs to be replaced. What's peculiar is that I just had it serviced last week for it's 44k service and they had to keep the car an extra day to update the ECU which I thought was kind of odd. Not a few days after, the check engine light comes on. I asked why it didn't throw that code prior to the ECU update and they said that it is just coincidence that it didn't prior to it being updated. I know it's under warranty and all but I'm just a little skeptical that this isn't really related to what was done during the service. Anybody else has had their turbo replaced? I've had the car since Dec. of 2011 and haven't had a single issue with it. I didn't even feel any type of loss of power or weird behavior when it did throw the check engine light...... oh well, hopefully they just get it sorted out soon... I hate driving a piece of sh*t rental car.... couldn't even give me a mini loaner... sheeshh.......
Hummm that is strange you didn't feel any power loss.. Im not a fan of ECU updates. Myself and a few friends that have MINIs have had some issues when the dealer does this so called update. They had to keep my car 3 days because of an ECU update that went totally wrong! Then when they did call me to say my MINI was all done I went to pick it up and ended up driving it right back because half of the stuff in the car wasn't working. they or something got really messed up! It took another 5 days and still when I went to pick it up things were not working.. No fun at all..
saga continues.... now they say that the turbo that they go is defective and now have to hang on to the car until Tuesday. I still feel that whatever they did for service prior to the check engine light contributed to this whole fiasco.....
Are these updates required to keep the car under warranty? Or can we chose to not update?
He said the updates are improvements. But honestly it can turn into a nightmare really quick. But long story short is they ended up having a MINI tech from the factory do the updated. Im still waiting on the answer from them on this. If anyone else knows if would be good to know!
