manual transmission fluid replacement

which brand did you use to replace your manual transmission fluid?

i have searched on the net that redline 75w80 is good for r56's but, no result found on r60.

have anyone used this on r60? if so, what is your review?

mini/bmw claims lifetime but, nothing last forever..

i have found redline being used by other mini owners and then royal purple and other brands. my 2011 countryman s just passed 65k and decided to replace it.

some owners replace it when they are replacing motor oil like 3500-5000 miles. i think that's little excessive but, it's their call....i've decided to change my trans oil every 50,000. little notch shifting from 1st to 2nd but, overall she is still good.

no responses from countryman owners so, i am planning to change it this weekend with redline 75w80...

Hey I was wondering if you had used the redline for your manual transmission fluid and if it's working out. Also to be more specific was the oil
Red Line MTL 75W/80 GL-4?

Red Line oil has a great application guide here. Just enter in your vehicle information and it'll pop up with the correct application gear oil. Red Line is a great product. Here if needed.

I had the same inquiry when I changed out the transmission fluid, so to totally eliminate any costly guessing, I called the MINI dealer parts department, gave them the VIN and voila got the proper oem fluid type. FWIW.

Unless I saw multiple testimony that Redline fluid makes smoother shifting on that transmission specifically, I'd go with OEM fluid. The last thing you want is a fluid that is too thin and causes premature gear wear and noise, or a fluid that's too thick and doesn't properly coat the needle bearings. That's my take on aftermarket fluids.

That being said, I've switched to Redline on a different vehicle and felt smoother shifting. Unless it's a weekend warrior / project car I'd stick with OEM fluid.

50k is a good interval for gear oil.

sorry for the late reply. now my cm-s has close to 90k and so far so good. the redline did smooth out the edges noticeably shifting from 1st to 2nd but, still there. never gotten smoooooother...note: did not send out the old oil sample to the lab when i changed but, it was cleaner than expected. surprisingly, it was in excellent condition where i rubbed the oil on the tip of my fingers. no large particle felt.

will report on next oil change.

I know this thread is a few years old but I would like to change the fluid in my new to me base model 2013 6MT. The dealer states that I need MTF LT-4. Redline is not available locally but I have several other possible options including Royal Purple, Lucas Oil, Castrol, NAPA, and Amsoil. My research shows that I need 75w90 gear oil that meets GL4 requirements. All of the oils mentions state that they meet GL5 requirements. Would these be safe to use? For anyone that has used something other than OEM or Redline, please be specific with the type.

Thanks
