Transaxle/transmission

My purchase history has included primarily VW, Porsche and BMW vehicles.
The VW and Porsche vehicle nomenclature includes
trans-axle for the mechanics that transfer power from the engine to the wheels. The BMW term was transmission/differential.
It seems the Mini is similar to the Porsche in that the engine and wheel drive is an integrated unit, albeit the ends have changed.

Which is the correct terminology for the Mini?
Trans-axle or Transmission?

Perhaps gearbox suffices?

Comments and opinions welcome.

Trans + Diff = Transaxle

You could call it a gearbox, or a transmission, or a transaxle...everyone would get what you're referring to.

The MINI, like most FWD (or predominantly FWD w/AWD) with a transversely mounted engine, has a transaxle.
