MINI warantees & aftermarket

Do you guys know which modifications you can do to your MINI without voiding the warantee? And what about doing some kind of modification and then changing it back to oem before you bring it into the dealer?

I am thinking about a K&N filter.

The best thing to do is read the following:
http://www.seniormag.com/legal/lemon...gnusonmoss.htm

It is the Magnuson-Moss Warrantee Act. Basicly, the auto mfg has to prove that the aftermarket part was directly related to the failure of a factory part(s). You will be fine with the K&N....don't worry.

Magnuson-Moss is far from the be all and end all.

An automaker only has to "prove" the modification caused the problem if you force them to prove it in a court of law. Otherwise we are still at the mercy of the service advisor and the dealership for what they will or won't submit to MINI for warranty reimbursement.

Magnuson-Moss may be on your side, but if the dealer wants to "void" your warranty and not do a repair for free, then for all practical purposes, being in the right doesn't do you much good, if you aren't prepared to take legal action.

I find that to be quite true as the warranty coverage and voidance can vary from dealer to dealer. The best thing is to inquire your MINI service advisor to be certain what modifications are permitted without voiding the warranty.

Well if there's one mod that you don't have to worry about...that's it.
