HK Stereo Issues

I had an interesting experience last week with my HK Stereo system. I inserted my flash drive as usual, turned on the stereo system and selected USB. I pulled out of the driveway and after about two blocks, the system just shut itself down and the display went black. Afterwards, for just a few seconds, I would hear music from the USB but just very short clips. I tuned the power switch back on and the display appeared to functioned normally. The system defaulted to the radio selection, so I selected USB again and while it recognized the USB was seated, it would not access it. So, I listened to the radio all the way to work and back home.

The next morning I seated the USB again and turned the stereo power on, then selected USB. Guess what? It accessed the USB and play the music just as if nothing had even happened. That was the other day.

So, lets fast forward to yesterday. I plugged in my phone and decided to play music off of that and was taken aback by the extreme bass the system was pushing out. I though it was something to do with the phone, so I seated the USB. That gave the exact same effect, extreme bass as if the bass setting was set to the maximum. Thinking I did something crazy, I checked the bass setting and it was flat (at center or zero). In order for me to listen to any music at all, I have to set the bass setting to -6. I got the same reaction from the system today.

I have a service appointment for Monday to see what the issue could be. Has anyone at NAM had this issue or a similar issue with the HK Stereo System?

I dont have the Hk system but had some freaky issues with my system. Turns out that there were a few corrupt mp3's on the drive, and a few non-music files that the system freaked out on when it hit them. Have you added or changed music on the drive lately?

I use the USB to listen to the latest things I've downloaded most recently. Music gets added to it over time. I thought it might be the USB, so I tried a different one but still get the same effect.

As always follow instructions at your own risk!

That's the disclaimer.

Back up your music and then reformat the thumb drive.
I know it's not a requirement, but I reformat twice.
Then reload your music files.
Be sure to NOT load any files/text etc that sometimes people load as playlists in text form.
The HK system likes it simply stupid!
I also saw where you said you plugged in ( seated ) the USB at several points.
I have found that inserting, removing, inserting, removing the USB multiple times will sometimes confuse the system.
So when seating/inserting the USB thumb drive, let it power up fully before attempting to access the music. We humans are in such a hurry all the time.... lol
Hope this helps, and remember, the technology in these things move way slower than we do, let it ferment, then enjoy.

Thanks for the suggestions, BubbaJCW but I think that what's going on here may have more to do with the head unit. Considering the simple fact that I don't seem to have any control over the level of bass in the system. Maybe even the amplifier. The problem I was having was not only with the USB but the phone as well. Crazy.

Well, it looks like BUSTER gets a new head unit tomorrow. The dealership reported that the head unit was reporting errors right and left. In order for me to listen to the stereo with a somewhat normal bass, it was set at -5 or -6. Fingers crossed.
