R56 '07 MCS cruise/radio control install
'07 MCS cruise/radio control install
Lucky me-- I had a most enjoyable experience yesterday having my little "Hot Rod" updated (the computer), and my after market MFSW (Multi Function Steering Wheel) micro switches installed in my Automatic Tranny equipped Mini.
Chris at "Euro Motors" in Raleigh NC did the work. He is a Mini trained tech/mechanic. If it didn't work, I was almost ready to change vehicles-
When Chris added the switches he found I needed an extra "plug in" receptable that my paddle equipped steering wheel didn't have. We had no choice- I had to lose something. I lost the use of the steering wheel shift "paddles", but the gear shifter lever still has it's manual function. Now, I can pay Mini $635 bucks for a different steering wheel plate, or get a steering wheel from a salvage yard that has all the MFSW switches already installed to correct the lost paddles- We'll wait and see on that score.
When he powered up my modified steering wheel, the switches had no power to them.
Now he contacted BMW in SC and put me in for a computer update. My Mini is an '07 so the computer data base is 7 years old. The update took about 1 1/2 hrs. He had to wait in turn for computer time.
Now, when he powered up the Mini, he had power to the Cruise control. He test drove it and I was on my way-
What a neat place for routine service or anything you might need. There are about 5 or 6 Techs running around. They are their own bosses, do all their own work, even the billing and payment paperwork. No service writers, payment windows, or upper echlon bosses/owners to deal with.
Each of the other guys are experts in their own field ie, Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, VW, Ranger Rover, etc. They all wanted to get out on their own and into business for themselves, with their own schedules. I guess if you have a problem you holler at Chris-
COOL!
As I said, Chris is the Mini guy.
I was a happy camper driving home with my cruise control and steering wheel radio controls fully operational!- Chris will see me again
Oh, Mini ("Flow" of Raleigh) wouldn't touch my Mini for this update. The service guy told me if it doesn't have an item from the factory, they don't want the liability, or the work- I guess.
Cheers,
Max H

Agree with you wholeheartedly Max. Chris is a very knowledgeable guy and does excellent work. When he did my walnut blasting, he took me into the shop to see the valves before and after. He also took pictures and sent them to me. They can do anything on your Mini, and will do more than the local Mini dealers for a whole lot less money. I will be using them again.
Glad to hear you've got your cruise control up and working.
