Top smelled musty when wet

Sorry if this has been answered before, nothing came up with search.

Came to my car the other day. It had been raining, and the top was slightly damp in a few places (most of top was dry).

Put the top down and went to run an errand. While stopped in traffic I noticed a musty smell a few times.

Once I got to where I was going, I put the top back up and took a whiff. Noticed a definite musty smell.

Anything I can do to remove this smell, and make sure it doesn't happen again? I always leave the top up when I'm not in the car.

Thx.

Check to make sure you did not have water leak in on the floor or in the trunk when you opened it. When you have it in the trunk on a hot sunny day you will see condensation on the rear window. I would check all around.

Thanks

I'm thinking the top was wet/damp....and got folded up....kinda like ANYTHING that is put away wet....
I'd wash the top....heck drive it through a carwash might be enough....

The two best canvas care products are Ragg Topp and 303. A good cleaning and some time in the sun should deal with the problem.

I'd be scared to put too much pressure on the soft top going through a car wash + car wash aren't that good at washing thoroughly anyway.

But yea, car tops though fabric like are for obvious reason air tight so it's very much like a plastic tarp. If you put the top down when it's when mold will start t grow. That's one reason why we never let our top down when not driving it. Any time it rains you want to make sure it as time to dry.

So yes wash it thoroughly with the products mentioned here. Use a soft brush though, and let it dry a good bit in the sun. That should do the trick. Also put some soft top protectant. That will help water run away which in terms will help avoid too much humidity sitting in there.

Good luck with it
