Hey everybody,

Just wondering how people chose between leather, leatherette, and cloth sport seats. I was set on leatherette for my future S but someone mentioned that they wouldn't breathe as well as the leather and since I live in sunny LA I thought that might not be a good thing! Does the leatherette make anyone, well, sweat a lot? And do people feel the leather is more comfortable than the leatherette?

Thanks for your opinions,

Craig

I'm a big believer in the cloth. I love my dark grey space cloth with panther black bolsters. Very comfy, very nice when it's hot or cold, and it adds some jazz to the inside. The leatherette is to monotone. The leather in a lapis or other color would be nice, but falls victim to the too cold/too hot syndrome.

Lurk mode <off>

Can anyone that has taken delivery of an MCS with leather sport seats comment on the comfort and support of the seats? I am particularly interested in lumbar support. I believe that the leather sport seats have an adjustable lumbar support on the drivers side?

Can someone confirm? It is important to me that I have an adjustable lumbar support, just had back surgery.

My Cooper 2002 with sport leather seats does have lumbar supports. The seats are quite versatile. I will get leather again on the S. Sorry PETA

The leatherette sport seats on my Cooper are terrific, though cloth vs. leatherette is a tough call. Some drivers prefer one over the other. If cared for, they both last about the same. I had cloth in my last car and wanted a change.

There is some lower back support in the leatherette sport seats but you won't get the specific lumbar support unless you get leather.

If you need the support, get the real deal and just be aggressive with its care.

I chose space cloth and I love it, not warm/cold and not slippery, you stay ther in the curves, and they look great.
I tried both leatherette and space cloth, for comfort and look I prefer the cloth.

I got the space cloth and really like it. I've had many favourable comments on the interior. With the desert heat, I opted against the sunroof, and since I would like to be able to detach myself from the seats during the Las Vegas summer, neither the leatherette nor the leather seemed the right way to go.

I have the cloth kaleidescope red in a red cooper with white top....Haven't tried out the other seat options but I like the feel of the cloth and the look- as someone said above- "it adds some jazz to the inside."

I agree completely. Can you confirm for me that the leather sport seats have an _adjustable_ lumbar support?

Yes the MINI "S" with Lapis Blue Leather which I have has lumbar support. And like "D" said leather is the only way to go. I get more compliments about the seats and the comfort you would'nt believe. Spend the $1250.00 and get it.

Thanks for confirming. I have the Lapis Blue ordered, with every other option besides the NAV system.

I just wanted make sure that there was suitable lumbar support in the seats. Not that I woulda cancelled my order, but I woulda been bummed.

I ordered black leather - but won't take delivery for a couple of weeks (November Club Founder), so I have no idea what it feels like. There weren't any leather samples at the dealership in any vehicle I've seen. I like the smell of leather in a new car. Howzat for a reason?

In Canada the leather is a $2,200 option!

I opted for cloth. The first MINI my better half and I test drove had leatherette sport seats. She was wearing shorts... The day was hot... A short test drive... Didn't turn the Air on... She left sweaty puddles on the seat... Therefore Cloth seats!

I sat in the leather and leatherette for my test drive. I couldn't see $1250 worth of advantages in the leather, so my MCS will have the leatherette seats. But I like the leatherette better than any cloth seat I ever sat in.

Just an aside, I think the MCS sport seats are great. Really supportive and comfortable even without the extra adjustable lumbar support.

I have leatherette and definately stuck to them when wearing shorts in the summer. I had a towel on them for long drives. My last cars have had leather and I think it breathes better. After trying the leather and fabric in the mini, I think the fabric is more comfortable for sitting and cornering-- it's supportive and comforms to your body. I suggest the sports over the standard seat, better shape and support.

Was not a difficult choice for me as I decided to go with the "Classic British Roadster" theme on my one month old Mini Cooper. British Racing Green with Cordoba Beige Leather. The seats look really sharp with the contrasting dark bolsters. Worth every penny!

Got the sport seats in leatherette. My last car had leather and loved them, but it's just not practical when you surf and the cloth seats would stay damp.

I was willing to save $1250 and stick with the leatherette. I actually thought it was leather on my first test drive and hey - it's "free". But when I returned a few weeks later and took my wife for a test drive, she thought the leatherette seats were a bit too hard and uncomfortable. So O then switched to leather (which I wanted in the first place) guilt-free! I added the Lapis Blue Leather which I really wanted from the first day my brother showed me a MINI brochure.

We ALL LOVE the Lapis Blue Leather! My wife can sit in my MINI for hours in complete comfort. She's even sat in the MINI for 2 hrs watching one of my flag football league games and bragged about how cozy she was. We both feel the Lapis Blue Leather sports seats are the most comfortable car seats we've ever experienced!!! EVERYONE who sees or sits in my car ALWAYS comments on how gorgeous the seats are and how incredibly comfortable they are. As a matter of fact, I probably get the MOST compliments on the leather seats.

I got the leatherette because I didn't care for the bumpy looking leather. Sport seats are great. This morning the seat warmers came in real handy.
