R61 Thinking of selling my '14 JCW All4
Thinking of selling my '14 JCW All4
I posted a feeler on one of the other forums the other day, about not being in love with my 2014 JCW Paceman All4.
This is my 3rd MINI.
I owned a 2004 Cooper S, bought in 2008; had a few performance mods, and I loved it.
My son crashed it, and I replaced it in 2009 with a new JCW Hardtop.
I loved that car too; but after four years, I just thought I should try something different.
So I sold it and picked up this Paceman last Fall.
Thought I would love it; but I have to say that, while I LIKE it, I don't love it.
Naturally, I'll take a bath if I sell it so soon.
Window sticker was $41,600, and I owe $35,000. I've got 4K miles on it.
Anyone think that I can expect to get what I owe?

Here's an interior shot.
It's a great car. Just doesn't get my heart pumping, like my previous two MINIs. Or my previous two M Roadsters, for that matter.
If I sell it, I'm honestly not sure what I will get next. Maybe forget about "fun" cars for a while, and concentrate on finally getting my skydiving license. That gets my heart pumping! :-)
After 35 years and only 21 jumps, and 60 years old, if I don't go for a license soon I may as well forget about it.

someone else posted on the forum that is in the exact same situation as the OP. Several folks mentioned that PM's were all over dealer lot's, heavily discounted...when you look at Mini's sales numbers, the PM is not doing well at all.
It's a fraction of the CM sales..my gut tells me that the market they are going after wants 4 doors if they are going to get a "big" Mini-just my completely unscientific opinion.
As you found out quickly, the PM is definitely NOT an MCS JCW.
I think you will certainly be out some cash, BUT, sometimes you have to go through something to realize it's not for you, take the short term hit, and move on to what you really want for the long term.
Still a few 2013 MCS JCW's out there...I found one a few weeks ago

OP, did you try the JB+ at least go get a little more pep? It's a cheap alternative to losing thousands on trading and buying another car. This one is pretty sharp looking now and I think a little bump might make it more fun. I vote keep it but make it a bit more mean
It's a good looking one at least. You might get lucky if someone wants a discount on a new All4, I would certainly consider yours. Try autotrader and cars.com. You might ask the dealer if they would help you sell it for a fee. Have you thought about trading it in for a leftover R56 or the new Cooper? Dealer might give you more on a trade-in under those circumstances.

Guys,
Actually after looking up the numbers a few weeks ago the Paceman R61 is rank 3rd in global sales for Mini, kicking the Clubman to 4th place in the first 12 months of Paceman production. (The number one seller obviously is the R56 Hardtop followed by the R60 Countryman by large margins)
IMO,
The big disconnect on Mini’s part was not correctly defining what the Paceman “is” and “is not”, It is not a larger version or extension of the R56, it is simply a 3dr version or coupe extension of the 5dr Countryman. I was really reminded of this yesterday when I was driving my wife’s R56S Sport in for service, I thought driving it “wow what a total blast to drive”. Then I was given a R60S Countryman as a service loaner and on the way home felt like I was driving my R61S Paceman in a sedan with the B pillar and attached seatbelt pushed forward to accommodate the 4 smaller doors.
Doug,
With regards to selling your JCW Paceman, it will sell because the JCW Paceman’s are hard to find. I purchased my R61S a few month back priced in the mid upper 30’s, I would have purchased your used JCW for the price of a new “S” with the same sticker options.

Thanks for all the input, guys!
I do like this car; I just don't love it. I guess if I don't find the right buyer, maybe I'll learn to love it.
Maybe what I'll need is a tune, maybe some cosmetic mods, maybe just more seat time. We'll see what happens..

So I am new here, and new to the whole Mini experience (just got a 2013 CM). I ran into a similar situation with a few vehicles in the past, most recently my '05 Harley. After totally customizing it I found it beautiful but not exciting. I yanked everything off of it took all my original stuff, and Rat Rodded the whole thing.
So total shift from custom tins and paint, chrome and other bits and began either finding junk yard stuff or fatiguing the surfaces, then powdercoated chrome flat black, put gangster white walls and had the stock wheels coated hot rod red. I love it now. It is a really unique thing now and runs like a modern bike.
I am struggling to find a "theme" with my CM but it will come. I hate being like everyone esle (probably why I bought the Brilliant Copper with White roof and mirrors and black wheels.
If it does not inspire you, there are drastic ways to make it better.
Go big or go home!
