Whistling mini

Hi everyone,

I have a 2010S with 35,000 miles. In the past month I have noticed a whistling while letting off the gas.

When I was at the dealer they were not able to duplicate the issue. It only happens some of the time.

Any ideas on what that is?

Thanks for any help

I have a Justa, so I am guessing here. Could be a turbo blow off valve.

It sounds like a leak between the throttle body and engine. When you let off of the throttle, the engine pulls a vacuum in the intake manifold because the throttle is closed and the engine can't in suck air.

Could you record the sound for the dealer?

That was my thought as well, BOV.

My guess would also be a vac leak of some-sort. I had issues with a throttle sensor in the manifold. No noise, but mine froze and split causing massive power loss, maybe urs is having an issue fully closing.

As far a BOV goes, there isnt one on the S. It uses a recirculator valve taking all excess boost and pushing it through the intake manifold. There is no venting to the atmosphere. The recirc valve does produce a noise close to that of a bov, but if your using the factory intake you wont hear any of it without trying and windows down. Its just the pfffsh not a whistle.

It could be the recirc valve leaking. I had a similar sound and just replaced it. The old one was noticeably weaker.

Recirc as well. Try replacing the spring with a forge spring. Very cheap and may prolong the life of the existing valve. Careful not to tear the diaphragm.

I noticed a whistle (2013 Coupe S , Automatic) the last couple days. Came here to search and found this thread

I Had my window down a little while driving under an over pass at highway speed, that's when I heard it. I can't hear it when driving out in the open, I guess the sound just bounces back from the overpass. I tried removing the radio antenna - still whistling. Throttle on or off, doesn't make a difference, the whistle is a constant pitch at speed. So i'm thinking it might be wind related. i did a larger FMIC and a license plate relocate bracket - maybe the bracket.

I will try taping off the a-pillars first. eliminating one possibility at a time.

Yes, I just replaced mine yesterday. Not a terrible install with the right tools.
