2013 MCS totally problem free until today when the cabin heater suddenly stopped working. I only get cold air.
Any obvious things I should try before I take the long cold trip back to the dealer?

Usually means no coolant getting to the heater core, or possibly a vent door is stuck. Coolant topped off? Try messing with the heater controls, will heat come thru the vents in the dash (vs below the dash)? Could also be an air bubble in the coolant or a thermostat stuck open. Am thinking you'll be headed to the dealer..
BTW, it was 78 here today, 80 tomorrow. Planning on a spring training baseball game tomorrow

And yes, I'm thinking a dealer trip is in my near future....

Your low on coolant and you could have a leak at the Thermostat, but we have seen more leaks on this year at the oil filter housing seal or at the water pump. We say one just yesterday.

I should be careful bragging about the weather here, come July-August, it'll be over 110 here just about every day. It's a real experience getting into the Mini when it's 114 and has been sitting in the sun a couple of hours..
I saw this thread and thought I'd tell what happened to me today.
I've had my 09 MCS for about 3 weeks now and it has had trouble getting heat in the cabin. Today my engine overheated and was blowing steam/smoke out of the hood. When I opened the hood I noticed I had no coolant/antifreeze, that the coolant holding reservoir was completely empty, and that it was not even attached to the radiator where it is supposed to feed coolant into it. By simply attaching it back and filling the reservoir to its max, I now have plenty of heat and the engine is running great.
