Reading the forums and various articles online it seems to me that improvements in the 6 speed transmission have made improvements starting the 05 model year. Is it a straight forward swap to replace the 6 speed in an 03 with one from an 05-06? I know they changed the gear ratios and the trans is supposed to be better. Just curious for when it comes time to replace the clutch, it might be best to swap the whole trans out.

 

the only thing different between the two is the gear ratios. You can just swap the trans and reuse all your old parts including clutch, mounts, and axles. The thing is you will loose your cruise control as the ECU doesn't like the new ratios.

 

Thanks for the info, you guys at Way are always helpful, on the phone and the forums. No real reason to swap it out, doesn't seem like the benefit is worth the $ of a replacement trans.
