Cooper (Non S) Timing Chain/Tensioner Potential Issue

Hi Chaps,

I`m about to buy a Cooper R56 (non S), manufactured in July 2009. I`ve checked the car details with the BMW VIN decoder, which says it has an N12 engine (120 hp).
Does this engine affected by the timing chain/tensioner issue? If so do you have clue about the price of its replacement in a Beemer garage?

Cheers for the feedbacks.

Regards,
Akos

No tension issues with the non s. You are safe.

Cool, cheers for the input.
Do you guys know what are the common failures on that particular model?
I`ve tried to chase those up in different forums, however almost threads were about Cooper S. But, what about the non-s?

Thanks.

The non-S cars are generally free of the issues that affect the S models. Timing chain tensioner, high pressure fuel pump, turbo oil line, and carbon build up issues are specific to the S cars. The non-S ones are pretty reliable.
