So it's been a pretty brutal winter in CT this year, and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the noise I noticed this morning. This is the first time I've heard it (but it's been making it all day).

The vehicle is a MT 2013 Justa with 29,300 miles on it. I've had its oil changed on schedule, and the water pump died and was replaced under warranty at 22,000 miles.


The sound has gotten significantly worse since this clip. The best way I can describe it now is that it sounds like someone is holding an empty soda can against spinning bike spokes. Any insight would be much appreciated

 

Sounds like something is in your fan. Look to see if something got in there. I believe that there is also a cooling fan on the power steering motor.

If it's not something simple, then drive it in or use roadside to get it towed in and fixed (hopefully under warranty).

 

My Mini dealership just gave me a buzz. Turns out, my water pump pulley system fell apart, or something. My guess is that something was not put back properly when the water pump got changed less than two months ago. The dealership replaced everything, including the water pump. So, I've gotten two water pump changes in less than 7k miles. That must be a record.
