I tried searching and couldnt find my answer.
I need a new motor, and i have never got anything done at the dealership because i didnt agree with the prices. I would like something this big though to have some sort of warrenty behind the work. Basically all i am looking for is who has had to replace an engine and what does it generally cost?

 

I would suggest calling a few independent shops and the dealer to get quotes. The pricing really depends if you are looking for a long warranty (like a rebuilt engine with a 3 yr warranty), or if you are satisfied with a short warranty for a much more reasonable price. Most of the labor rates for the swap should be similar.

I am replacing the engine on an '07 Mini base right now. The replacement engine is a used engine from an 2010 with 37k miles. Cost of the engine was $2900. Labor and other misc parts will be another $1k or so. This engine only has a 90 day warranty. I believe a rebuilt (base) engine is $4500-5k.

If you want any sort of significant warranty you're going to have to go through the dealership and get a new/rebuilt motor. They're going to be significantly more expensive than getting a used motor put in at an independent shop. You have to decide if that warranty is worth the extra $3k it's going to cost you to go with the dealer. I believe if you go through Mini it would be a 2 year warranty.

 

They are two year unlimited miles.
