Vibration
Just installed 18x7.5 SSR Comps that I had ordered off of Tire Rack. They came mounted and balanced but vibration can be felt in the steering, but can not be felt throughout the car. Any ideas?
Good morning, seems that one of your tires might be out of balance.try stopping
by your local tire shop to get your tires rebalanced and go from there.how do the
18's look? did you buy the 18's for looks or handling ? Good luck.

Thank you very much will do. Actually bought them for Both looks and handling. So far the car feels much quicker and handles like its on rails. Deffinetly would recomend them to anyone.

Sorry, but you've got to be kidding. quicker?

Vibration above 50mph, or following grooves on the road? If tramlining,
that's the way it's going to be on 18's with firm sidewalls unless you give
your front a slight toe-in.
Im running 16" SSR comps. very little tramlining and looks perfect
on the car.

Also, you might want to just do a quick check of the torque on your lug bolts. When I got new wheels, I found that the lugs were coming loose regularly for the first month or so. Check often!

chitowncoop brings a good point. You should always retorque your lugs at least
once after 10-15miles of driving after swapping wheels.
I usually find my lugbolts loosening a little bit.
After you retorque it once, usually you don't need to do it again.
Its better to retorque once, than to over torque the lugs the first time you
put them on.

i dont know if the SSR's come hub-centric, if not, be sure to check if they came with hub-centric rings. that also could cause a vibration.
fyi, an 18" is more unsprung weight and has more rotational mass. even if the weight of the wheels are 20 lbs or less.

Another common reason for vibration with custom wheels is an operator putting weights only on the INBOARD lip. This will sometimes happen because an operator is afraid of scratching the outboard lip. You can use tape weights just behind the spokes for balancing the outboard plane.
Balancing with weights used ONLY on the inboard plane is almost a total guarantee of vibration.
All that said, I doubt that tire rack would have done a single plane balance.
