Gas for your Mini

Jan.18,2014

Accidentally yesterday I put in 5 gallons of regular instead of premium. I always use premium but yesterday I goofed. Any problem ? The 2007 Mini cooperS 6 speed still ran great.

You should be ok. The manual says 89 octane minimum, 91 recommended.

There will be NO problem assuming you used branded gas. Your car will run fine and the computer will compensate for any issues. Putting higher octane gas than the motor is designed for is really just a waste of money.

What is important is the quality of the fuel. Only Shell for Artoo but other Top Tier or national brands are good too. Stay away from unbranded tank bottoms and mixtures.

I also will not go to the unbranded stores even if they ad a 91 octane. The best I've noticed is Mobile. Shell is good too.

I've goofed too on the regular unleaded. I do notice some pinging and lack of performance when doing the get on it phase. I don't do it much, but try to at least get on it once or twice per tank out in the country. Way fun!

Motor on!

So go get some octane booster, or just put in 10 gal of good stuff and you should be fine.

It won't make any difference, the knock sensor and the engine control unit will compensate.

Besides you still have mostly premium in the tank.

Don't worry about it.

Thank you Dave for your response. The car runs just fine. When my next fillup comes I will be back to my regular 92 octane from WaWa.

Gas Stations

When I bought the car they told me to use only Premium. And I have.

2013 S Coupe

And the dealer told us in a meeting about how to find good approved gas stations and so I did. Something about messing up the fuel injectors and such if you run cheap gas all the time.

One tank most likely will not hurt. And maybe I go overboard. But I plan on keep the car for at least 100K like all my others.

So waste of money? I don't think so and even with the 100K warranty I want the car to run its best. But I am no expert and have not tried cheap gas to see if there is a difference.
