Alta-Downpipe back Exhaust for JCW

Hi everyone,

I have a 2013 JCW Hardtop and I want to swap the exhaust out. I have been contimplating the Akrapovic system with the down pipe, no doubt its a fantastic option but everything I've heard and read is it's quite tame in terms of sound. Also its quite pricy and I want to explore other options too.

Any feedback or opinions on the Alta-downpipe back system? It looks like a good option, and the you-tube clips sound pretty good. I like the look of the tips also.

I just want to hear some feed-back from some people, pro's and con's?

Any pictures with this system installed would be fantastic, especially with the JCW bodykit.

The price is $1k.

Would getting this Alta system and matching it up with the Akrapovic down pipe be a great option? Again, any help appreciated.

Thanks, Wade.

Search for clips of the Quicksilver exhaust. It is much higher flow than the Akrapovic and sounds way more aggressive and it has a much more controlled and clean sound than the Alta. The Alta is wider than the Quicksilver for sure but you're getting the same gains with either one in combination with the Akrapovic down pipe. Both are straight thru designs deleting the second cat but I feel the Alta has a bit of a very bassy "ricey" quality to it's sound, whereas the Quicksilver's is full of screaming, gurgling mid range that makes your whole body tingle. I'm biased, as the Akrapovic DP+Quicksilver DP back system is my personal setup, though I have had quite a few different setups since getting this car and it's the best combo yet. There's a few sites that claim 35 hp gains just from installing the DP-back quicksilver, which obviously isn't true, but the gains were quite significant even before I had the DP on. Maybe more like 15ish hp with the biggest improvement being the smoothing of the whole power band on WOT. It's also taken very well to tuning but I know the Alta can do that too. And the Akra Evo, though I feel their actual exhaust is kind of restrictive. It obviously looks fantastic and performs fine because of the DP, but I think the DP is the only thing on that system that's truly worth the cost. If nothing else I mentioned, definitely get the Akra DP. You'll never regret it. Ever. It's an absolutely beautiful piece and it actually makes me sad to have it covered by a heat shield all the time lol.

The JCW already has a fantastic exhaust. Unless you absolutely crave more throaty exhaust notes, including drone while driving, then I would skip the exhaust altogether. Performance gains are minimal at best. A $300 JB+ will install in 30 sec. and give you much more performance for the dollar.

The Quicksilver is not a 3" exhaust, but it is very close at 2.75". So you're getting basically the same flow with a much better design and a MUCH MUCH better sound. Quicksilver's primary market is for Aston Martin and other sorts of super cars and you can certainly see the quality in their stuff for the Mini. The AP downpipe will bolt right to it with zero issues. And then there's the sound . I'll try and get a clip up for you.

Exhausting

I just received an email from Quicksilver.
They use 2.25" piping.
These appears to be too small for my application; bigger turbo and tune.
A real quandary.... QS seemed to offer the best exhaust note but ALTA wins on flow...
