Mini's New Cheaper Power Train Extended Mechanical Warranty

Does anyone have any feedback with Mini's new Power Train Warranty? Not one dealer knows a thing about it in my area besides just being able to sell it. for a 5 year 100K on a countryman cooper I have been quoted 1830 and as high as 2500. Yes I know, there shouldn't be a price difference. Been down this road, I had the same issue with my maintenance warranty, got it for 400 cheaper at a dealer 100 miles away. Nonetheless, the dealers I have spoken to just say its not a bumper to bumper warranty like the 4/50, but just a power train. When I ask them if the turbo, hpfuelpump and carbon build up clean up is covered, they don't have a clue yet. So, I ask you guys, any idea about this warranty Again, it's in the 1800 range for an additional 3 years and 50k.

I'd be interested in what you find out. Looking on MINI's website, there is the "L" level of coverage which "covers major components of the vehicle and offers protection against many major mechanical breakdowns". The next level up "XL" adds to the "L" level: "..coverage of engine and fuel systems, transmission, final drive assembly, steering, ABS, electrical, heat and A/C". Not sure what the "L" level will cover if you have to get the "XL" to have the engine covered.

This is to the main page listing their protection programs:

The PDF is a very high level document and doesn't get into any real details. I have been pondering getting an extended warranty since I bought the car in July with 7K on the clock.

What I'm trying to determine is whether my money would be better spent on maintaining the vehicle well rather than putting it into a plan that is intended to increase a companies profits.

I may have some more detailed literature on the plans at home. I'll have a look tonight.

I will be very interested in this also. Normal maintenance I do myself but the timing chain issue and some other things make me thing maybe an extended thing would not be bad. I do not want a bumper to bumper thing.

I checked my literature that I had last night and did not find anything that laid out what the "L" level warranty covered. I did have a price list that was printed out last September and had price listings for the "L" plan which was listed at $2,240 for an 84M/100K.

I wish there were better info out there on these, but I guess they want you to call or talk to the dealer so they can get a salesman on you.
