Alright NAM, I have attempted to get this DDIN project going and have run into some fitment issues concerning the retainment of the factory head unit.
08 R56 with Boost Radio, I followed the thread in which the OP ran an extension ribbon cable from the factory head unit to allow for him/her to keep the unit inside the car (directly behind the speedometer), while running an aftermarket headunit in its original place. This allowed him to retain all factory functions all the while enjoying the upgraded system.
My problem came after I dismantled the entire centre console, removed my head unit to swap ribbon cables, and proceeded to test fit the unit anywhere in the back of the original factory location (i.e. behind speedo, behind a/c unit).
It seems there isn't any space there that can completely house the unit without getting in the way of the mounting frame that holds everything together. Here's a picture to help visualise a little bit of where I am at.

After sorting this problem out I only have a few steps before I can finalise this project and consider it a success. Those steps would be:
1. Tap all relevant wires from the aftermarket head unit harnesses to the car (e.g. speaker wires, power, ground, accessories, etc.)
2. With the metra DDIN kit fully assembled with the a/c unit, switches all mounted up, I simply need to put back the entire centre console assembly and I am all done and ready to go
I'm asking for those of you who have successfully completed the DDIN install in conjunction with retaining the factory speedometer screen and controls, in other words, those who kept the factory head unit with the aftermarket unit together in the car on where you've place the unit factory unit (except those who placed the unit in the secret compartment).
Thanks in advance.
