Which way do i turn the brakes?

Going to install new brakes, pads and rotors. Read you have to "rotate" the rear calipers when pushing them in. Cn anyone help as to which direction? Also read you can break said caliper if rotated incorrectly!

Can I get away with not using these special tool / attachment for the rear brake install? Or is it 100% required? Dont really want to pay the dealer to do such a fairly simple install...

Clockwise and I used a pair of Needle Nose Pliers

I opened the bleed valve a little bit and you gotta push with some firmness and turn a lot to get it back in.

Sometimes the FREE to rent tools at the local autoparts place will gave a disc insert (some will not) that will fit the free tool to let you do it...
I bought a HarbourFreight tool for about $20...they don't show the cheap one online anymore..just a $40 one...but the redboxed $20 one (they may ONLY stock in in the store) works fine...

Needle nose and clockwise for me. Note you do need to apply some pressure. The first time I spent five minutes just spinning it round and round without result.

as you can see the HF tool (and similar from other places) has a bunch of adapter plates. This is because the push and turn is not a MINI uquie thing, rather it is quite common of cars with disks brakes on all 4 wheels as the 'turn' is a by product of the e-brake system ... not ALL rear disks ... but many.

So, if you plan on doing brakes long into the future, the investment in the tool is probably not going to be wasted.

And I for one just LOVE any excuse to buy another tool!
