Help with transmission parts

Hi, I have an 03 MCS with approx 150k miles. Heard clunking noise while driving . Took out the 6 spd tranny and opened it up to find some broken teeth. See the pic at 6 o'clock position.
Does anyone know where I can get the part and what it is called?
Thank you.

Thanks pyratio, is there internal pics out there? I read that we can get internal parts for the Getrag tranny from a Ford supplier since the Focus SVT also uses the Getrag 6 spd tranny.

Ahh, that's the part I need. Thanks again. Now, I just need to figure out how to replace it.

Stop the press!!!

--Hmm you may want to call your local MINI dealership. As we just won a class action lawsuit against bmw/mini.

Free is good especially with a 3 year warranty thrown in.

That snaggle-toothed gear is part of your differential.

Have you got any more info on the "winning" part? The article you linked just says there is a lawsuit. Is there a limit on mileage?
Also, the only thread I found concerning class action lawsuit and transmission was for the automatic transmission. The article linked doesn't specify type of transmission.

Thanks Vetsvette, found a good write up on the differential here

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...d.php?t=158224

It's the crown wheel that's broken. I can see that there are 3 teeth broken but could only find 2 broken pieces attached to the round magnet disc at the bottom of the tranny.

That doesn't bode well. It's gotta be stuck in there somewhere. I think I can find a video on changing the dif. Let me check.

Found it. It's in this thread. Post #7.

It's just the ring gear on the differential. It gets reused when you do a differential install so unfortunately it's not like there are a bunch of "extras" laying around. It's pretty hard to get parts for the internals of these boxes. You could just find another broken box and salvage the diff out of it but there may be other problems with your transmission that you're not aware of yet. I think most people who run into these problems end up getting a new transmission. You could find one out of a wrecked car. The good news is the 6-speed is (I believe) common across pretty much all the years/models of minis. Meaning, if it's a 6-speed box then it's the same Getrag box you have.

The litigation referenced by Pyratio above does not apply to the 6-speed getrag that is the subject of this thread.

Thank you all for the info.

V10, I was thinking as you suggested; getting a rebuilt one I saw on ebay for $1350 shipped from England. I can't buy a brand new one due to budget constraints.

Vets, the video is great, much better than pics. You still have the Amsoil for sale? My email husodo@msn.com if you still have them.

Jab, the article states the litigation is for S models. Are you saying that it's for the CVT(automatic) only?
