Anyone running D-Street this season? What's your setup?

The +/-1" wheel diameter allowance makes for a couple interesting options. 15x6.5 with a 205/50/15 has a gearing & weight advantage. 16x7 with a 225/45/15 seems like a great in-between, but the R1R and ZII are the only options there.

 

I'm going to run completely stock except for the Rota Slip Stream 16x6.5 wheels I already have and a set of 205/50-16 ZII's. That's all I needed when I ran my HS hardtop in the local street tire class. Unless you have a mechanical limited slip you may not be able to take advantage of lower gearing from a shorter tire.

 

You're not going to fit 15" wheels on a Cooper-S are you?

For 15" I'm running 225/45-15 BFG Rivals on our Cooper.

 

15s fit on my r53 just fine.

 

Will be running a few events for sure, '06 JCW - the only year of 1st gen JCWs eligible.

Stock with the exception of 235/40-17 Yoko AD08s on Kosei 17x7's, and have an H-sport comp rear sway bar arriving soon.

Having a sunroof helps keep me away from the temptation of going further with mods, since it'll always have that inherent weight disadvantage... really it's for the best.

 

What's the offset on those wheels? Do you have any rubbing issues? My three year old 205/50-16 Z1s are finally toast I think, so I might step up to 17" wheels and go wider on the tires this Spring. I was able to get by light and cheap with rota slipstreams in 16x6.5", but looks like stock legal 17s are going to set me back quite a bit more. Nervous that the 235s will rub and I'll be out even more money.

 

I believe they're 42mm offset, and yes there are some rubbing issues with the 235s... I've still auto-x'd on them, but I've popped a wheel arch a few times - not completely loose but broken a few of the plastic connectors.

I got these from someone with an R56 that didn't have any rubbing issues. As far as I can tell when they do rub it's only against the plastic of the wheel arch which doesn't bother me so much (it's actually been more of an issue driving on the street hitting bumps than autox), but that said after this season I'll be going to something different and replacing all the plastic bits on the wheel arches for good

 

I ran 215/45/17 BFG Rivals on 17x7 Kosei K1 TS wheels all last season in RTF and found that to be a great setup. The prior year I had run Hankook RS3s in the same size and found the Rivals significantly faster.

I bought a set of 16x7 wheels for this season that I was planning to run the 225/50/16 Rivals on. The turbo r56 Mini does not need lower gearing at all IMHO. Boost is so strong at low RPM in 2nd gear. If anything, I want taller tires for taller gearing so that I don't run out of 2nd gear so soon.

Other set up stuff on my 07 MCS is double adjustable Konis, JCW red springs, JCW front bar, Tarrett Engineering rear bar, JCW tuning kit, and a straight pipe after the cat.

Do you find yourself hitting the rev-limiter that often? I think I only hit on one or two courses per year. Are you willing to sacrifice acceleration just to get the extra width, or you think there is benefit to the taller tire as well? What 16x7 wheels did you end up getting? I'm curious to see what you think.

 

I hit the rev-limiter on pretty much any National style course. And the Mini has that awful soft limiter that seems to start cutting even before the needle hits the marked redline.

I have never found myself wanting for more power down low in the power band to accelerate off corners. The Mini is extremely torquey down low in the RPMs.

The wheels I bought are the OZ Alleggeritas 16x7 +42mm.
