R50/53 2006 R53 BCM Radio problem
2006 R53 BCM Radio problem
So my Mini has a weird issue that might be related to some corrosion somewhere between the radio and BCM.
I had a leak in the sunroof that caused problems with my BCM. Had the typical haywire computer issues, radio volume not working, interior lights had a mind of its own, wipers not working, turn signals not working inside (but working outside), etc.
I took my mini to an independent repair shop a few months back and they thought it was the BCM charging me $900 for a replacement. They found it didn't fix the problem and that I needed to replace the radio as well for another $850. I asked if I found a replacement stock radio or aftermarket, whether that would fix it and they affirmed (from what they could tell).
I found a replacement radio (stock oem) plugged it in and it has the same problems. Now I'm suspecting the problem was never the BCM but a bad wire perhaps in serried with the radio.
Does anyone on this board know what I can check for corrosion and a possible DIY repair? I don't want to spend a dime more at the repair shop (I don't trust them) and the dealers prices are insulting.
The problem - if I plug the radio in, electronics go haywire. If I unplug the car is perfect. I miss my radio!
