Choosing correct spacers

I've never had to use spacers before so please forgive the ignorance of this question.

I have 17" R98 web spokes that I use for my winter setup, the problem is they do not work with the front brakes on the GP due to the spokes hitting the calipers.

It appears spacers would resolve this but I don't think I'll know for sure until I just try some.

So the question I have is, what's the best way to determine the appropriate spacer size? Is it just trial and error? I'd hate to just buy spacers and have to keep returning them so I'm wondering if there's a better way.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks gray raven

That's a great video and helpful for anyone.

We currently carry H&R MINI spacers here: 4x100 pattern for MINI. They are currently part of our holiday sale.

Thanks for the info, very helpful

I'm thinking from initial investigation that 5mm is going to be too small, 15mm is a little more than I'd need but might be the best option.

Hopefully I can do some test fitting this weekend then order some up.

I believe there are 10mm spacers out there that may work.

Very important - you will need longer wheel bolts to go with the spacers, even for 5 mm spacers. There is only about 10 - 12mm of thread engagement as it is with stock wheels and bolts. A 10mm spacer will eat most of that up.

I am running the H&R 5mm spacers with my wheels to clear the Wilwood BBKs. The H&Rs are really nice.

check out ichibausa. They have a 10mm spacer available for MINI 4x100 lug pattern for 1st gen and 2nd gen. I would have gone with H&R, but they completely skipped the 10mm spacer.

My experience is that you do not want a spacer that doesn't have a hub centering ring. I believe the thinnest spacer with a hub center ring is 12mm. The ones I have used on my 2007 MCS for several years now are available at the following link: http://www.promini.com/category-exec...arch_model/100
I also got longer wheel bolts from another vendor who also sells spacers for MINI's,if you buy bolts you want the cone type NOT the ball type...see link below:
