Might as well join the party (2014 plans)

With all the fantastic information and ideas being passed around now that the race season is over (for most of us anyway), I thought I'd share my plans for the 2014 season.

  1. Wash car really well (especially salt removal), top and bottom.
  2. Give a drink of silicone to underside and esp. rubber bushings.
  3. "Nut and Bolt" entire steering, suspension, and engine cradle systems.
  4. Get my annual alignment.
  5. Go racing.

Going to stick with my R-84 (X-Lites). They're not the lightest things out there at 17.5 lbs. each, but GRM proved that unless you find significantly lighter wheels (i.e. under 10 lbs each) that it may not amount to more than a 0.3 sec. improvement. That's within driver noise, and I overcome driver noise pretty well. Sure, such wheels exist, but at almost $2000 for a set, I can put that money to better use elsewhere, I don't need to spend my way to wins... I do it on ability.

So, my $250 set of used R-84's work well, they deal with shatty NJ roads and thus, I don't have to change my street tires to, uh, street tires at events.

Lastly, I'm going to stay in HS (H Street). I've been competing in RTF HS for the last two seasons and loved it... I bid adieu to Hoo$ier but will gladly run their tires on someone else's car in the form of a co-drive or instructor run (or three).

true. the only reason im going 16x7 is another test where they basically say, for street tires, sidewall support trumps all. i don't much driver skill, working on that part, but just trying to set the car up to a place i'll be happy with on a personal level. I'll be running HS as well. I think I'll be going to nationals for the first time this year, driving, but not to compete, mainly to show support for the class. can't wait to meet all the great mini drivers on the forum

OK. So I added a set of Koni Sports to the car.

They were used, but look and perform like new, and at $260 for the set, it was an offer I couldn't refuse!
