Steel Winter Wheels

I have an '06 JCW GP that has never been driven in snow and ice. I will be buying a set of 16x6.5 steel wheels from Tire Rack. They are guaranteed to fit and not rub the large JCW calipers. I would prefer to get a set of used OEM wheels for mounting 195/55x16 tires. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Check the following-

Ebay
Craigslist in your area
Local MINI clubs for anyone with spare 16" stock wheels
NAM marketplace
Your dealership for any 16" take offs

Other sources can be expensive and not worth it.

Why not get cheap alloy wheels in the same size or 16x7"?

These are the cheapest 16 inch rims on tirerack.com for a pretty reasonable price. They even come in a 16X7. If I were you I would just get some steelies with a nice set of winter tires and save your money... unless your winter season lasts more than 4 months.

Suggestions

Minihune,

Thanks for your suggestions. I've checked CL. There are no MINI clubs in this region (CT) and I haven't seen any listed on the NAM Marketplace. I have not checked with Fairfield County MINI regarding takeoffs.

I think I'll probably go with steelies from Tire Rack as per papatom360's comments. Obviously black steelies are not particularly attractive or well-suited for mild weather use, however, they seem to be a practical choice for winter(snow/ice) driving. I will not use any corny-looking plastic alloy wheel simulating covers. I prefer the "form follows function" look, although I may buy a set of stainless full disc (Moon-style) covers that have

honest personality!

Thanks,
Halid
