Timing advance on r56s (mostly stock).

My 2010 MCS seems to have a mind of its own as far as power delivery. Sometimes it'll shred the pavement. Other times I think I am driving a Corolla!

Vehicle is mostly stock. 44k miles. Valves cleaned by MINI at 40k when previous owner had it. All maintenance/service done by MINI. New timing cassette at 43k.

Only mod by me is ddmworks ris. I have logged with and without intake. Boost and timing advance are the same. Intake temps are about 30F lower with intake on.

Now for issues/questions...

Boost can be anywhere from 11psi to 13.9psi (highest I have seen; was in 2nd gear) at WOT per Torque peak/hold and confirmed with their track recorder. Not sure why it is so inconsistent. I have been watching timing advance lately and it will settle on 2-3° advance at WOT above 5k rpm. What do others see as far as timing advance for a stock tuned motor? I found a BP with 93 octane and so I am running that for fuel. Am I knocking on 93 octane when basically stock?

Thanks,
Nine5raptor

I believe the reason for the variation in boost is because the DME is load based not boost based. So it will adjust the boost to meet it's targets due to the load.

Agreed, but it should be seeing full load when you slam the pedal to the floor and hold it to 6k in any gear but first (I think you will see full load there but lag + low gear means you can't build the boost quick enough). I have previously logged engine load and you can peg it at 100 pretty easily.

I think there are other variables that come into play like IAT, etc. But I'm at the extent of my knowledge but definitely interested....
