What belly pan mods are required to fit a 2013 R56 JCW auto? I have heard that you need to shave some material off and would like to see some pictures.

 

hello Cactusjk- Here is a picture installed on the automatic transmission. You can see the vent I will be talking about as its in the location of the automatic transmission drain plug in the picture.






As you see it in the pic. It fits fine, but we figured with people that are concerned with the pan touching the bottom of the automatic pan, it only touches a little from the top section of the driver side rear vent. The top portion of that flared vent can be cut down ( plastic and fiber material ) a little if you don't want it to touch. For some people its not an issue as the pan fits and looks the same.


Here is a pic of the top side of the pan facing forward .



So with the pan pointing forward the left hand side ( driver side) rear large vent highest point , you would take down a couple mm, if you are concerned with it.

Great pictures! Still not quite sure how you you would trim that area down due to how thin it is? Maybe a circle on the offending vent will help clearly identify it.

This might help a little more, people in the past have filed it down or trimmed it with a dremel so it will not rub on the bottom of the automatic transmission pan. I have attached the picture of the location.

I thought of one more item that will totally clarify the install for auto owners. Maybe a blowup of the offending vent and how you recommend trimming/filing it. Not sure if you just file the upper edge or actually cut it back some. Really appreciate the help. ECS clearly has great advice and background with this skid!

 

You are welcome.

In that upper lip edge locations ( in red ) with the pan on the ground. You are into the fiber / plastic materials at that location ( its just plastic right behind it). A flat file or a pair of good snips would work, or dremel , make sure you mark off with a marker to know how deep and to make it level to the pan. You can also mark it off with painter blue tape as a guide line. The edge of that tape makes a good line. Then test fit, check amount of room and you should be good.

Not quite sure where the tab on the front goes? Is there supposed to be a slot for it? It worked out fine. Just had to push the hoses up to get it to slide in.

 

Yep. Just at lower hose. There is a little opening I believe near core support right above the backside of the bumper. Just slides into it for alignment of the piece to the front. Most people when install it, push the pan forward, while tilting it down a little and when it lines up with the front tabs to screw it in, naturally places it in the slot.

Other then that its sounds like you have done it already.

 

Now you got me thinking about it again. Not sure I saw a slot. It clearly slides above the plastic lip on the backside of the bumper and I gradually adjusted left/right until I got the holes to line up. Interested in seeing what the slot looks like.

Assume since it all lined up that it is in the slot.

Hello, nothing like this for the Gen 1 MINI : R53 . Your stock belly pan for the R53 pre 1/2005 non automatic should be like this. Unless it missing or has been damaged.

Does this stay on for oil changes?

 

The JCW GP2 Belly Pan is removed quick and easy for oil changes.

The speed screws come out with a quick twist of a Philips head screw driver and with the installed washers on the other side of the speed screws the screws stay with the pan. I hold the pan in the center and then go around and unscrew them , then the pan drops out.

So its easy to change in / out.

I find the hardest ones are those into the felt by the wheels. I have to get my hand behind it to apply pressure to get the screws to engage. Not an easy task!

 

I have been told that there is a type of pan for the R53 that has a fan tunnel, do you know of this ?

 

Anybody drill an access hole through one of these for oil changes? Impressions? Regret? Thanks!
