Anti-Stall Feature

I've only had my 2013 MCS for a few months. The other day in some heavy stop and go traffic I noticed an interesting behavior. If you gently let off the clutch in gear without touching the throttle the engine will rev up to around 1100 RPM on its own right as the clutch starts to engage. You can usually get away with this without stalling in other cars that don't do this, but this feature makes it super easy. Sorry if this is old news but a quick search didn't find me anything and I wanted to share.

i tried doing this when i first test drove my '13 MCS because i was used to driving truck with big torqy motors that can handle gently letting the clutch out without gas.....my car stalled right away and the salesman didnt look pleased....so ive yet to try it since.

perhaps ill give it another try this afternoon

Part of that might be the stock clutch travel, because the release point is super high. So you ease off and you haven't actually done anything yet, then speed up your release and bam! I installed the BMS clutch stop with one disc removed and the clutch travel and release are perfect.

Ours does the same thing. it's super handy in slow moving traffic because you can just put it in first (or second) and completely let off the throttle and clutch and it'll just idle along at like 5 mph.

on my 07 I can very gently let off the clutch and it will ease forward. There aren't many many sticks I've been it that won't do it. It;s all about how slowly you do it.

I know, I've only owned manuals since I started driving. But this is my first throttle by wire car and the first one I've seen actively rev up the engine for you like this.

Welcome to modern fuel injection circa 1986..

Fact: you can zoom up all 5 gears in a parking lot... Never touching the gas in any fuel injected car..

Older cars used a computer output to control a device called an idle speed (stabilizer) valve../idle air control valve.

It does it's best to keep the car at a given target rpm based on idle demand.

Of course, it's been replaced by throttle by-wire inlets.. And VANOS.. Systems now.

Yeah all mine were fuel injected, and while the idle bypass valve might help, it definitely had its limits and I never saw it preemptively raise the revs the way the mini does.
