I'm in the middle of replacing the clutch on my 06 R53. I'm having a pretty tough time getting the transmission back onto the motor.

Seems like no matter what I do there is a 1-1.5" gap between the trans and motor. In the process of removing bolts from the car, I very sloppily mixed some bolts together.

Can anyone confirm for me which bolts are used to attach the trans to the engine? I see two lengths of bolts, some with longer shoulders than the others.

I feel like an idiot, I would really appreciate any clutch replacement tips you might have.

I don't have any experience with the R53 specifically but I've done a few clutch jobs on other FWD cars and a diff install on our R56. When we put the trans back on the car in the R56 it took a few tries. I would try to get it on and fail. Then reach in and turn the transmission input shaft a bit. After a few tries it slid right on. Are you using a transmission jack?

 

I'm not, but I'm going to get one in the next day or two. I think I'm also going to remove the radiator for maximum access...

 

There should be 8 goldish colored bolts, M12 bolts and 65mm in length. these are the trans to motor bolts. there will be 4 bolts silver,M12 bolts 45mm in length. these are the trans mount to trans. If you send me a pic of the bolts, ill circle / label the bolts for you.
