Help! I'm not sure what socket type or size I need to remove these lug nuts.
Alright so I got this mini used and it has these lug nuts but they are not squared off. I didn't have any sockets that could fit it so I was gonna go ahead and buy the 17mm protected 6pt, the blue one. However these lug nuts are rounded off, so now I'm in doubt about what I should buy. Anyone have any idea which socket I need?
Here is the picture of the lug nuts.

pic wont open....
guessing if the are round with an inset pattern they are probably mini locks - dealer should be able to remove them for you. . . do an image search on google/yahoo for mini cooper wheel locks. . .

Sorry, the McDonalds wifi wouldnt let me upload to a good picture hosting site. Ill try to get pictures again
Gerry, I looked at wheel locks and those aren't it, but they actually look like the inside of the wheel locks.
I actually found the pattern on another lug nut, here is the product. I guess it takes 6 point sockets. I thought it looked too round to take that, pretty much answered my own question..

They appear to be the same as the Gorilla bolts/nuts sold by Discount Tire. They are a splined bolt head. The appropriate socket is available there. You'll need a 19mm socket to turn the splined socket. You probably have after-market wheels that require a smaller diameter bolt head than the stock bolt. Here's a link to Gorilla's site for replacement keys as they term them.

It's not exactly those, I mean the outer wavy design on the outside that looks like that, the part the socket actually grabs on to. I don't have internet so it's difficult to upload pictures. It is like a regular lug nut only the sides look like a star with six points. The best way I can describe it is that it looks like a gear.

Kind of hard to help when you are unable to post a picture. However, do they look anything like this?

If so, they are spline lugs and you need a new key. Go to your local tire shop and see if they have one that matches.
If they look like this
then you need a socket key.
Or if you haven't checked, the lug key may be with your car as the previous owner would have needed it with them or they would not be able to change a flat. Check your car to see if it is with the jack kit.
Good luck

I can see these pictures, I wonder if they are not embedded because they are too wide?
Anyway, these looks like some sort of Gorilla nuts to me - there are different sizes, but the idea is the same. I've got my sockets of amazon.
