DRM Songs and MINI Connected

I am waiting for my MINI Countryman to arrive and I was reading up on MINI Connected since I ordered this feature.

I read somewhere that DRM songs from iTunes (songs that have digital rights management) are not playable through Connected. Is this true?

I know that iTunes hasn't been encoding their songs with DRM since 2009, but, I purchased a lot of music before 2009 and will be kind of depressed if I won't be able to play any of these purchased songs in the MINI.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks.

DRM won't be an issue. The Y-cable connects the stereo's aux input to the analog audio line-out in the iPod/iPhone dock port. The digital converter on the device has already done the processing (including DRM). This is almost equivalent to connecting the headphone jack to the aux input, and the downside is that the sound quality is not the best.

If you're playing your files off a USB drive, you can't play protected songs. Off an iPod/iPhone, you should be fine as rkw mentions.

iTunes offered an upgrade option a few years ago to remove DRM from songs for 10 cents a song or something. I assume that option is still there somewhere. Might be worth looking into.

See this thread for removing DRM. I highly recommend it. You might want your music on an Android or other device in a few years. Going non-DRM is the only way to go.
