chirping from e-brake - fix?
chirping from e-brake - fix?
New (to me) 2010 MCS with an odd problem. At highway speeds, there is a chirping from the rear. Pulling up slightly on the e-brake (less than 1 click) makes it go way instantly. Put the e-brake back down...chirp, lift up...no chirp. It seems like there is a little too much play in the e-brake cable, and tightening up slightly would fix it. I've seen references to the nut under the boot - should I tighten that, or anyone have other ideas? The brakes feel fine to me otherwise, and the e-brake engages fine at higher clicks.
I would not adjust the parking brake.
It sounds more like the rear pads are not fully retracting. I would remove the pads, and calipers and inspect the guide pins... Lube them.. Clean off the pad mounts, add anti-squeal compound to the pad backs..
Should take care of it.
