So I just added an m7 aerogel heat shield and it seems I'm actually loosing performance from it. Not that it is entirely a peformance part.

1.The hood is actually hot/ warm, when it never was.
2. Somehow i lost like 60 miles on my range
3. The spool takes longer then usually
4 and the fan stays on for at least a couple minutes when it usually shut off in 45 secs or so

Of course this could be due to something else, or possibly normal but anyone have any thoughts?

The only way I can see the shield being linked to those issues(and I wouldn't be terribly surprised), is because of it holding heat(it's job), in the wrong spot.

Look at the factory heat shield and any turbo blanket. They ONLY cover the hot side of the turbo.

There is very good reason for that. The center section contains a bearing that soaks in oil, and the cold side... well wants to be as cold as possible for the most dense air possible to feed more air in more efficiently.

What I see out of the M7 heat shield, is an aluminum shield AND heat reflective blanket all about an inch or 2 above the ENTIRE turbo. So all the heat coming off the hot side is now trapped and held in place to soak the bearing and cold side.

I could see a decrese in performance possible, but I also argue that it could be wearing the bearing prematurely over time because of all the added heat in a section of the turbo you want to cool, not cook.

So I assume the cold side it everything past the oil turbo and coolant line. If that's the case. Perhaps cutting it with a dremel would suffice

I was under the impression that was from extreme heat, as the kevlar started melting. But Im gonna do some testing with this unit. If anyone comes across this in the future, ill update it.
