New Mini owner

Hi All

I just bought my daughter a 2004 Mini S -John Cooper edition. I have owned a few Audi's that included a 200 QT, a 90 Q, and a few A6's all quatro's so I am somewhat familur with "German engineering". When I drove the Mini I was impressed with the handling and quickness. (I also raced Alfa Romeros so I know a bit obout going around corners)

The vehicle seems solid and I did not see any rust along the doors or problems with the shock towers. We had a mechanic look at the car and he said that it was in excellent condition so I hope we are safe... .

The thing that got me to this forum was a search for a third key. we got two with the vehicle and I'd like to get one without the remote just in case we need it. Can someone tell me the best -least expensive - way to get one?

Thanks

PS -I already have a daughter and son - I don't have enough bedrooms for another!

Hey guy, "Welcome". My dad had an Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, in which I learned to drive.

About the key, if it were me, I'd just call an authorized MINI dealer and order one. They are spendy, even the valet-key without the remote and whatnot is probably $150ish. If you only need it for an emergency key, in case the other keys are locked inside, you could probably find cheaper, but it wouldn't start the car because of the immobilizer chip needing to be a dealer thing.

Google may help some, but easy to get lost. The remote control that unlocks the door is seperate system, and there's two different versions of that depending on year -some rechargable and sime replacible battery, etc, then the immobilizer chip as I mentioned is a seperate thing.

My car only came with one key, I'd like to have another just in case; and I'm thinking to get a valet key from the dealer will be the simple solution, and significantly less expensive than a remote control key.

Hope you'll enjoy the MINI; if you can borrow it a few times from your daughter, you might have to get another one.

Welcome

You'll have to get the extra key you want from your dealer as you have to give them a copy of the title or registration, and your drivers license to order it and prove you own the car.

I don't care about the remote - just a key that will unlock the door and allow the car to be driven. Will the valet Key do that or does it limit the amout of time the vehicle can be driven?
