Bonnet scoop in Gen 1 vs. Gen 2 MINI

Hi all,

I manufacture a product called SCOOP-GUARD which protects the intercooler by helping to keep debris from being sucked under the bonnet towards the intercooler. Thus far I have them available for Gen 1 MINIs but would like to make them for the Gen 2 MINIs as well.

Can anyone tell me how the scoop opening in a Gen 2 compares to the Gen 1? Anyone willing to take a tape measure and tell me the dimensions of the opening?

Is there a plastic shroud insert in the Gen 2 as in the Gen 1?

Thanks!

I don't believe the Gen 2 scoop is functional. With modifications it can be an inlet for the air intake. The intercooler on the Gen 2 is down by the radiator.

Even if it is not functional, there may be some members interested in a powder-coated colored metal grill to fit in the opening, just for the "bling" aspect...

Does anyone have measurements of the Gen 2 scoop opening?

I thought about that, but my local SF MINI/BMW dealer is a bit snooty and I don't think they would be thrilled seeing me poking around a showroom car with a tape measure..

OK the Gen 2 is 1.625 X 14.375 and has a slit in the top. I have no idea about a Gen 1. I got my replacement from Mini Fini. It's got all the holes opened and its aluminum and black. Also the stock one has four screws two top and bottom and two taps on the top.

OK, I see now how it looks - thank you SO much for the photo - it helps a lot.

It looks like I just need to make a template like I did for the Gen 1 SCOOP-GUARD, and develop a method of attachment (already have an idea).

Thanks VERY much for the help!
