Drivetrain Alta Hot Side Boost Tube Review vs Muffler Delete
Alta Hot Side Boost Tube Review vs Muffler Delete
I had the VIP Custom Parts Intercooler Muffler Delete for about 6 months and I liked it. I got increased throttle response, Increased Turbo Noise, and probably a little bit of power. Then I realized when i look at the pipe, when you put the muffler delete pipe in, it makes the diameter of the tube smaller. From Big to small and back to big. So it seemed like a weak point in the system to me. I gave in and ordered the Alta Hot Side Boost tube for more consistent airflow and to remove the bottle neck on the bend of the OEM one. Going from the VIP to the ALTA, I was not trying to keep my hopes up and expect any power. I just came back from a test drive and I literally said holy ****, I got power out of this thing! It is also 90 degrees outside so I will do further testing when it cools down at night. I have the MINI CONNECTED system in my R56 and it has a virtual dyno on it. I peaked at 209 ft/lb TQ and I've never reached that high before. I went from averaging 186-194hp to 196-203hp. I have peaked 211hp on cold nights but I am talking about averages here. Again, This is during 90 degree heat, I haven't tested with 50-60 degree temperatures yet. I am just saying that going from the Muffler delete pipe to an actual pipe made a big difference to have me actually write a review. Yes I know that the MINI CONNECTED dyno may not be accurate but it did show a difference in power and thats what matters. Im pretty sure I have a lot more HP if I were to actually dyno it from the crank because of the Catless Turbo Back and various other mods but the MINI CONNECTED showed a difference and my butt did too.
Well worth the price that I did think was pricey. But I went on ebay and got a discount!

$130 shipped.
And when I put on the original muffler delete.
You had to take out the muffler first and the hardest part was taking out the Torx bolt because I didn't have the tools.
Some people just twist it and snap it off since it's plastic.
So since I did all that 6 months ago.
Putting the Alta tube took about 10-15min.
Simply take the old pipe out and put the new one in.

I've got the Forge one and got it for $140. I dislike alta products because they failed me before, and it was disappointing. Hope it works out for you in the end, compared to my experience.
Are you planning to tune your MINI?
Are you planning to tune your MINI?
And I am trying to find a tuner for my 2013 R56.
Which is pretty much impossible.
Wait for Burger Motorsports JB tune, check it out on their website, it's only $300. Should be out soon! 20whp/35wtq are the gains.

Not sure about that pre Intercooler silicone tube. Never heard of it.
And I am looking into a real tune. Not a piggy back or whatever they call it.
I might try it out honestly. But I like the idea of the Renntech tune. You have the stock map when you start the car. But when you push the sport button. It loads the new Renntech map. Just very expensive.

On both sides or just the discharge side? Did you notice a before & after difference or did you do it all with the FMIC install?
Just the discharge side. The N18's really don't need the other. I seriously doubt that one can feel a difference in performance by just replacing a hose. The NM tune on the other hand... and then the LSD... Monster!!!
So having said that, why did you replace it?

Because I had an overall plan of making my MINI into the best MINI it could be. I went with a holistic concept as opposed to the idea of replacing single parts for some idea of slightly increased performance. My destination was the stage 2 tune which was provided by NM. The road consisted of making my engine "breathe" as well as it could along with suspension mods to support the extra performance. The limited slip differential only came after I experienced the extra torque from the tune.
But a 'muffler delete' tube replacement wouldn't do that? ...and the "breathing" you get with the discharge pipe has no effect on any HP / TQ gains?
You get minimal gains with this type of mod. If that's your thing and your stopping point then knock it out. I didn't care about minimal gains. I prepared my MINI for NM's stage 2 tune. Notice my mod list... I wanted as complete of a package as I could get... and I'm not done.
Nope not tuned but I almost went with RennTech until BMS came into the picture with dynos and information I wanted to hear. But they have a 5 or more testers right now. Once they reach 10 testers I believe, then he'll expand across the country for testers. Hopefully the wait won't be as long till November to purchase it. Also he'll develop a stage 2 later on.
Because Terry posted on his thread that they are not doing it anymore because they are busy with the new turbo BMW's. Not sure if they changed their mind again, but this was within these few weeks.
Hmm, show me the thread you read. I just spoke to him via email, and he said the project is still in works.
idk what you were reading but i've been following the JB+ since it was announced on here and Terry never said these words. He has said they they most likely will never do n14 and they have no plans on doing the open source flash tunes that someone mentioned. But the JB+ is safe.
