05 R50 Rebuild to Autocross

Have used 05 mini just sitting at home, that I have not driving in 6 months, so I have finally decided to do something with it. First things first the starter is broken, so I ordered and installed that yesterday took 1 full day to do. Need some tips on what to do with inside leave it or remove it. The passenger seat is already out if anyone wants to buy it and the rear seats. Should I keep carpet of spray in bed liner. I will post pic when I get home.

All depends on what class you want to build it for? Are you going to be running with SCCA or just local clubs? If you want to just go nuts then feel free to tear out anything that isn't absolutely necessary to the running of the car. Then chop those fenders up and fit some mega hoosiers. Like their 275 on a 15" rim. Then experience autocrossing where you never have to touch the brakes

Going SCCA already have a 335i on the solo class but think the mini will be fun to drive and not worry about it being daily driver.

Wait what? No! You'll have a really hard time fitting 275/17s and your gearing is gonna suck. Are you going to build the car for SMF?

You can't just mount on a set of 275s on your existing 17 rims. They won't be anywhere close to fitting and will probably require a crazy amount of spacers. Buy a set of 15 rims with the proper offset you need.

yea dont just put on 275s thats a bit excessive, and wont fit with out some serious offset and spacers. .... first decide what you want to do then work for it. r50s dont have much power but the handle just as good as any other mini so you got that going for you. so putting on a very large tire wont help in acceleration dept lol, its gonna be to heavy

I was just joking about tires for my 17", Im going to go with a much smaller rim. In the future I plan to do the Audio 1.8T swap on the motor, thats why im getting everything ready now.

This thread is so confusing to me. What is the end-goal for this car? stripped out auto-x only car?

Basically this a car you want to tear down "for show" as I don't see it being competitive in any prepared or mod classes .... Since that's where it'll end up with an audi swap and stripped interior, your gonna want to start planning on lexan windows and fiberglass pieces

Sounds like fun if that's your plan to be non competitive but still have fun lol

Why bother with a roll cage? If it's just for SCCA Auto-x it's not necessary and you're just adding weight.
