Building a Custom exhaust...

Well, since I've put every mod on the car that I could I'm down to the exhaust. I was gonna go with 2 options: 2 1/2" or 3" from the 2 1/2" down pipe with 1 cat deleted on back to the muffler. Then a performance 2 1/2 or 3" inlet with dual outlets. What size pipe ? And what kind of muffler would you choose ?

i went with 3 inch pipe and a magnaflow muffler. i deleted the second cat and resonator. so i only have the primary cat on the down pipe and a muffler at the end. i left the down pipe stock but the from right after the down pipe back is all 3 inch. sounds great but might be a little overkill. from what i have read 2.5 inch would be enough to cover any hp the mini can put out. but i say go big or go home.

Heck yea !! There we go, a video or recording would be awesome. That's exactly what I was gonna do. Except the down pipe is more free flowing on mine. The heads been ported, KO4 turbo, AEM intake. Once the exhaust is done I gotta find somebody who can tune it.

Magnaflow all the way, I kept my resonator since it was super loud in my cabin and I couldn't really listen to music. But definitely ditch the 2nd cat and 2.5" is good enough. I went with that. I love the deep growl the car makes when hitting higher RPM's.

All we need is a part number brother. I did call magna flow and the tech was talking about the turbo XL. Series I do believe.

I went with a cherry bomb glasspack muffler on my exhaust. I think even magnaflow has a glasspack option. If noise (cabin volume) isn't an issue I would say go with that.

THANKS FOR THE CONFIRMATION !!!! XL series is the answer. once you go to the XL Series on the website, you just look at the inlet and outlet configuration you want and order the muffler, wait for delivery and bolt it up. as long as the inside dimensions are the same as these hi-end stainless exhaust systems it'll perform the same. might not last forever like stainless, but how long do you think it will last ? are you gonna have the car that long ? if so, buy stainless. if not, go cheap and enjoy the time you'll have it for. thanks for info, XL is what we needed to know.

Referencing having the car for a period of time, I look at it like this. XL series is for sound. Length of time is relative to stainless steel or regular steel exhaust. Stainless is expensive and will last longer. Regular steel will rust quicker and is cheaper. Now, how long does it take for regular steel to rust out and have to be replaced ? it'll prolly last 10 years. How long does it last on domestic cars and trucks ? Why spend the money for stainless ? It looks nicer. Who looks under the car and says , can't wait to lay on the ground under your car and check out the exhaust .. I feel, as long as the inside dimensions of the exhaust are the same spec as the stuff that don't cause the check engine lights to come on,,,, who cares, mild steel will last for the length of time I'll have any car. Unless your adding resale value then the stainless prolly add some I guess. I've never seen an option in the blue book to figure out the value of a car and seen a column that said for stainless it's worth this much.
