Samsung Galaxy S hookup

I am considering migrating from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S. But before I make the jump, I need to make sure I understand how it gets hooked up in the Mini (phone selection criteria is that it works in the Mini)

I do not have Mini Connect or Nav (I intentionally configured it not to have these as I wanted the center speedo to be where it had the fully needle swing). Right now I am hooking my iPhone by using the Mini supplied "Y-Cable". I know that the Galaxy does not use the 30 pin connector.

Since the Mini has the USB port and a 3.5mm plug in....what is the best way to hook up a Galaxy S?

If I only hooked up to the 3.5mm...is the sound degraded? I don't think I will see my music displayed on the radio.

If I hook up the phone to the USB only...will the audio play since my phone will act like a USB flash drive? Will I be able to see my music displayed on the radio?

Or do I buy a converter cable...where it will connect the Galaxy S to the 30 pin cable? If that is the case...will it act similar to the iPhone does?

Thanks.

Yeah. I saw that too. Not sure if it would be same as just plugging in the USB cord into the mini.

Hello,
Have an s4 and the iBolt dock, you plug the dock into the usb port in the bottom of the s4 and it utilizes that port for both power and audio .. the power is delivered from the car via the usb port and the audio is delivered to the car via the line aux input (the usb port doubles as an HDMI out port) and sounds as good as CD's i've listened to. Sadly this set up does not give you track info on the radio nor does it give you steering wheel radio controls

Previously i had a droid incredible and tried to use the phone in flash drive mode but the mini never seemed to scan the drive and never presented music for me to play.

I would be THRILLED to find a solution for my samsung that i can use the steering wheel controls w/o buying large price adapters

good luck! hope this helps

Thanks for the info. If the adapter does not provide track info... Would it make sense to buy a 3.5mm three foot cable and plug it into the aux port and just plug a USB cable into the galaxy s only when you need to charge the phone?

Is the sound quality acceptable with only the aux cable plugged in without the USB plugged?

My phone will be selected based on how it works in the Mini. Mini really needs to work on Bluetooth audio. My other option is to buy a 50 buck Bluetooth box retrofit
