There is a difference sound and performance wise with the JCW muffler, the tips help with outflow. I also have the stock Mini Cooper S muffler and feel that it's a bit quiet and restrictive, I desire more aggressive sound and flow. I have been looking at Borla as this sounds a little better than a JCW muffler in my opinion!

I had the JCW muffler. Performance wise not sure it makes any difference. Sound wise it is a hint deeper. Really nothing crazy, very very subtle sound difference. I think if I would have removed the resonator that would have been even better. I sold it quickly as I found a custom exhaust with 2nd cat & muffler delete (so only a resonator) and it's the sound I was after. I am used to louder exhaust (on my sportbike and 2011 WRX with Invidia Q300 set up). However looks wise and quality wise, JCW is TOP NOTCH! I miss the look of it

well a local exhaust shop gave me a good price on a cat back with the resonator delete, but they didnt have any mufflers that i liked the look of so im looking to just purchasing a muffler and i was curious if the jcw the only difference is the tips because i dont see the point of spending 400 for only tips... is there any companies that sell just the muffler with nice looking tips? i dont want to spend $600+ on a brand name exhaust...

The JCW muffler has tips you can purchase separately. You can see the difference here between stock & JCW

What are we talking about here?
The factory JCW muffler that comes on a JCW, or the JCW muffler that comes with the stage 1 tune kit? The factory JCW muffler doesn't have "removable tips". It's all one piece.
The factory JCW muffler definitely sounds different, sportier. The stage 1 JCW muffler sounds a little deeper, but tends to drone at freeway speeds.

The JCW Muffler I had was the one from the tuning kit. That one is NOT the same as the stock S muffler. It's a special JCW muffler with JCW etched tips. The sound was really quiet to me (probably because its just a muffler so the 2nd cat & resonator stay in place). So quiet I sold it quickly and went with a custom set up (2nd cat & muffler delete). I could also be used to louder exhaust from my other car/motorcycle. However compared to stock S muffler, there is a minimal sound difference with the JCW tuning kit muffler, it was a little deeper.

Totally correct, even for the clubman version...
I ended up getting the factory welded tip mufflers and it was a major difference from stock S. Much deeper, more prone to pop and burble (even when cold which my car never really did), but not droney.

A week later/roughly 500 miles, I removed the reso and now it's exactly how I wanted it to sound.

Sweet video. Thank you for legitimizing my post. I was just so disappointed with the JCW stage 1 muffler, that I felt compelled to share.

I am so glad that you are happy!!

MOTOR ON!!

this is the exhaust on my old 2011 MCS with N18 Engine and JCW Backbox or muffler as you chaps over the pond say

its a straight forward fit which your local garage can do in about 30 mins. you will need a clamp for the join as well but your dealer will source this for you.

IMO this exhaust sounds great. much better that the stock S and TBH better than the FJCW, even though its the same exhaust

IMO the stage 1 doesnt sound any different to the standard MCS exhaust.

Its just got shiney bits sticking out of the end

go with the FJCW one.

It sounds better and is cheaper

yes

you may need a JCW chassis number though unless you know your parts man well he may order one for you

Youll also need a 55mm clamp sleeve to join your current exhaust to the back box

should come like this

you shouldnt need to modify any part of the pipes diameter. this will make no difference on sound

The pipe on your mcs and the pipe on the rear of the mcs muffler are exactly the same diameter. the clamp is only there to secure the 2 pieces together. and it does it very well

Well I'm going to do the res delete and probably the jcw muffler now, so there's no need to change the piping, just have them get ride of the res

Maybe do the res delete first and see how you like it before getting the mufflers?

Might "open up" the stock muffler to a sound of your liking.

I'm getting the factory muffler that has the tips integrated in the muffler for $442 from ECS tuning unless I can get it for cheaper from Sewell. It's definitely got a better sound without the 2nd cat and resonator unlike to the stock system.

I called up the mini dealer they quoted mt $559 for the factory jcw muffler, its just way too much for a muffler imo, I'm going to a exhaust shop because I want to save a little bit of money, don't want to buy a full magnaflow exhaust for 600ish...and the jcw muffler is just as much, if you find a place that has it for much cheaper than that shoot me the link!

$447 from Sewell in Texas, plus shipping(!). You might find a local dealer who will match that price.
