I'm looking at this wheel at the tire rack: Click (edit, link no worky? Oh well, all the relevant info is listed below - this is a 16X6.5 wheel called the Fox 3 or something - I'm not ready to drop the cash on SSR's just yet)

The offset listed for this is 42mm. In the HS forum, it says that the 16" OEM wheel should have a 50mm offset. In the GS forum, it says that the 16" OEM wheel should have a 48mm offset. Do the Cooper and Cooper S really use different offsets?

If we are allowed +/- 0.25 inches in offset, it would be (barely) legal if the 48mm number is correct for HS. If we are allowed 5mm, it is barely not legal for stock. If I really need 50mm for stock, then there's no hope.

So what's the deal?

I want to be letter of the law legal, since even though I'm not that hot of a driver, I do plan on going to nationals this year.

The other option is 15" wheels. I already have a set of 15" victoracers (but no wheels) that I had planned on using, but my tire guy is trying to steer me into a 16" setup. He'll take the victos back at no charge.

thanks in advance for edumacating me!

Many of the wheels are stamped right on there...48mm. .25 inches is just over 6mm if I remember correctly, so the 42mm should be legal.
I can't use the link, is the wheel 16x6.5? Remember that it must be stock diameter AND width.
So you know, I've got a set of MINI wheels AND unused Ecsta V700's mounted for sale.

Brian - thanks for your quick reply!

The wheel is listed as 16 X 6.5. Sorry the link doesnt' work, I'll try to track it down later. If you're really curious, you can find it on the tirerack site. This isn't anything fancy, it's a $124 wheel, but it is apparently the right size. At 20lbs it isn't exactly light, but oh well, my driving isn't exactly national calibre, either, so who am I to complain.

0.25" = 6.35mm. So I should be safe then.

If I didn't already have these 15" tires, I'd buy your set, but this guy is doing me a favor with pricing and is an overall great guy, so it wouldn't really be appropriate to give him the tires back and take my money someplace else.

Thanks again!

Fox 3

I think you would be much better off with a set of AK Monzas. 13.9 pounds and $155.
They are SSR knockoffs. You want the lightest wheels you can afford. You can get them at Webbmotorsports

I have a set of the Monzas... got mine from AK tire in MIAMI.... I also have a set of 7 hole 15" wheels that I had 710s mounted on.... If you can find a cheap set of 7 hole wheels they are very light... 12 pounds... I don't think the 15" setup gives up much compared to the 16s.... a few tenths given equal tires...
