Carseat in the middle seat problem.

We're having a hard time installing the car seat in the center position using the seatbelt. We have the Britax Marathon and we just can't get it tight enough. The Countryman doesnt have designated center latches. Can i just use the inner side latches from the outer seats to install the carseat in the center. According to carseat lady, MINI does not allow you to do this, but MINI didnt state this in the manual. http://www.thecarseatlady.com/vehicl...system_10.html

Has any CM owners install the car seat this method and is it safe?
I emailed MINI, but they have not responded...

I think officially they will say NO to avoid a lawsuit since this location was not approved.

With that said, in my opinion as long as the base is secure on the seat and the latch system is tight it should be fine. I think the center is safest with a rear facing seat.. I would consider doing the same if I had a wee one

Also, if you install the car seat and it is not TIGHT, don't use it in that location.

Hi

Just wondering if you checked with the dealer or just left the seat behind the passenger seat? (I'm assuming the dealer said no to the latch borrowing from the outer seats.)

I have the same car seat in my car and just left it behind the passenger seat. For me I am still able to reach in the back and give my son what he is looking for or just check on him.

Another option might be too go to your local Fire Department. In our area they will help and show you the best way to install your child seat. In the past they have provided roll ups and other items to help makes sure you mount is tight and stable for use in your vehicle.
