Is anyone running a 205-40-18? I would think they fit and handle well on a lowered MINI.

My MCS with aero kit and lower springs wears Toyo Proxes 4 (205/40/18) tires. So far, no rubbing issues! I'll take some updated photos after I pick up my car later today from service.

Alex@tirerack.com recommended 215/35/18's to go with my Kazera KZ-S and H-sport springs.

At first I thought the ride quality of the 18" will be stiff and uncomfortable comparing to the 16" that it replaced. However, to my surprise, that's not the case at all. The ride difference is not apparant. I think that is due to the factory runflat tires on the 16", which gave the car a stiff ride initially. The Toyo 18" performance tires, even though it's low profile, ended up providing a similar ride quality becuase it's non-runflat.

The only draw back of 205/40/18 is that there aren't too many manufactures that produce them. I only found Toyo Proxes 4 and Nitto Neo Gen for non-runflat.

Thanks for clearing up some questions, I know that the side profile of the 205-40-18 is a little bigger than the 215-35-18 so that may be one reason you have a smooth rolling MCS. I like he look of the 18" on MINIs and body kits set them off. I just don't want to be dealing with rubbing problems after I drop the car. I would still like to see your MCS with the 205-40-18's so I get the big picture.

Dave, Thanks for all the info you gave me , You were a big help. The 18' with the 205-40-18 fit the car perfectly and I'll be ordering mine today )

I guess the only other question I have is do you think the H&R coilovers will be any problem with that tire set up. My rims are a +45 offset.

Not at all! Thanks to all the NAM members for helping me in the first place! :smile: The only car I've seen with coilovers is the EB/W from Mini-Madness. On that particular car with 17" Volk wheels, the outer lips of the inner wheel fenders were trimmed off to accommodate the wheels. That was something I tried to avoid if possible. Fortunately, my setup didn't require any trimming as there's no rubbing.

 

looking at the pictures you posted, I still see some space between the top of the tire and the wheel arches. How much lower do you think you could go before you have any rubbing problems. and what is the offset of your wheels.

 

I purposely picked the springs with the least drops (3/4" in the front and 1" in the rear). I'm very happy with the result (no rubbing). With stock springs, I can stick almost 3 fingers into the gap. After installing the lowering springs, a little more than 1 finger in the front and not quite 1 finger in the back. I was too lazy to use a measuring tools and my fingers were available.

I don't know the exact offset of the wheels, but they are factory 18" JCW wheels.
